Some 760,000 people in Okinawa have been advised to leave home, the Japan Times said on August 1, as Typhoon Khanun, classed as a “very strong” storm by the Japan Meteorological Agency, approaches the prefecture.
Satellite imagery from the Cooperative Institute for Research in the Atmosphere (CIRA) shows the typhoon’s path towards the East China Sea into August 1.
The typhoon, packing sustained winds of over 100 mph, was expected to bring torrential rain and damaging winds through Thursday, NHK said. Credit: CIRA via Storyful
